Q-Flash BIOS-Update with a GigaByte-B550-Mainboard
Q-Flash is a GigaByte-feature for updating the BIOS on a pristine motherboard.
This has to be done when combining a GigaByte B550 AORUS ELITE V2 with e.g. an AMD Ryzen 7 5800x CPU.
The problem
I wished to find a clear description on the website of GigaByte.
Even the file readme.txt
(as part of the download) doesn't say anything about Q-Flash.
So i had to check out posts finding tons of them.
How it worked
I started with a download of the appropriate BIOS-Update for my mainboard, e.g B550 AORUS ELITE (rev. 1.0).
Then these steps have to be done:
- Extract the zip-file in a appropriate directory (with activated Explorer-File-Extensions)
- and rename the included BIOS-file to
gigabyte.bin
. - Copy the renamed file into the root directory of an Windows-standard-formatted USB-stick (FAT32)
- and plug the USB-stick into the USB-connector nearest to the Q-Flash-button (on the boards back side).
- The mainboard is only attached to all of the power supply cables.
- Now switch on the power supply and afterwards press the Q-Flash-button a second till a LED is blinking.
- After 1-2 minutes the LED should stop blinking and the BIOS-Update should be finished.
- Switch off the power supply and assemble the rest of the board-related parts.
- At least the board should boot with the new BIOS version.
